On the Forefront of Ebola Prevention and Community Restoration

Stemming from its success in Phase One of the UNICEF and Mercy Corps programs (see Battling Ebola: A Story of Two Programs), WCI is a preferred partner for Phase Two of both programs, both of which are now underway. In Grand Bassa County, WCI is working under ECAP Phase II to bolster the preventative healthcare capacity of more than 70 communities by creating and strengthening Community Health Committees, developing Community Health Risk Reduction Plans, and coordinating with district and county-level health teams.

Battling Ebola: A Story of Two Programs

Women’s Campaign International has been on the forefront of the fight against Ebola through two major grants: one headed by UNICEF and the other as a sub-partner to Mercy Corps on a program funded by USAID. The first phase of both of these programs successfully concluded in June of 2015. The focus of these programs was Ebola prevention and community restoration. WCI used the capacity building and training-of-trainers methods that have proved to be highly successful in WCI’s other programs to work in over 400 communities in all 15 counties in Liberia.

Advancing Leadership for Balkan Women

Women’s Campaign International recently traveled to Bulgaria to facilitate the Advancing Leadership for Balkan Women conference. Bulgaria is a country where 98% of women are literate, half work outside of the home, and about 20% of its parliament is female. The population is ready for more female leaders and this conference strengthened the skills of the visionaries of the future. This training was coordinated with the support of the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria.

Ebola Crisis in Liberia - You Can Help!

For the past five years, WCI has worked with many rural women in Liberia to strengthen their advocacy skills. Through this work, WCI has established tremendous trust in Liberia's rural communities. Distrust and fear surrounding the Ebola virus are known to be impediments to its containment. WCI staff members are developing a grassroots advocacy campaign for the illiterate, rural communities affected by the virus, in order to provide the necessary information to stop the spread of the disease.
